on the door at the front of the passangers side window the is a metal tab that is rusted out.(falling apart rusted not just surface rust) im in the prossess of trying to tighten the window up and i think this might be part of the problem. but i dont know what to call it or where to look for it. what else can rust in the door. i havnt taken the panel off yet should i be worried?
It sounds like the steel door structure - at the top front is a tab that the
weather strip screws into. My friends 73 has this issue - and his car is
truly pristine most everywhere else.
Another case of rubber components retaining moisture around steel. DOH.
Do I win ?
ps - go ahead and take the door panel off. You'll want it out of the way if
there is any welding to do. The bottom corners of all doors are usually suspect
for rust.
im not for sure which of you guys are right i will have to go look tonight and see if it is the rattle clip, or part of the door frame, i have already checked the bottem corners of the door. they seem fine not soft or squishy. i poked at them with a screw driver from the outside. if it is the door frame what will i need to do fix it? the winner will get my rusty part. hows that sound? nhvette , could you use some more rust?
The doors main weather strip has metal re-enforcements at the ends that contact the window...if the rubber has rotted off(I`ve heard they do that sometimes) That might be what you`re seeing...also would be held to the inner door structure with 2 small sheetmetal screws.
