My local club is getting more and more into autocrossing and other racing activities. We were discussing insurance and liability issues last night, and rather than reinvent the wheel, I thought I'd put it out to the forum.
If your club participates in these events, do you carry any insurance to protect its officers, the club itself, the participants...?
Re: Car Club Liability Question (foundvettelifeisgood)
If your club is affiliated with NCCC, the National Council of Corvette Clubs, the parent organization provides insurance for every and all sanctioned events. (the "key" word is "sanctioned") I believe the master policy is carried by K & K Insurance....might be Lloyd's of London. If you're a non NCCC club, and you have no liability insurance in today's world, you're asking for trouble, and possibly personal liability if anything happens. The NCCC policy not only covers autocrosses, but also rallye's, funkhana's and concours/fun shows. Chuck
Re: Car Club Liability Question (foundvettelifeisgood)
Chuck is absolutely correct. Our club is not big on racing :( but there are plenty of other ways to get burned in todays suit happy world. We are an NCCC club for the insurance. We are also investigating other alternatives in private insurance taylored more to our activities. NCCC will cost you about $30 per member per year.
To go one step further, most if not all "venues" where you hold events require that you/your club provide an insurance document, or they flat out won't let you use it.
I've belonged to NCCC since 1968, and to NCRS since 1980. Whenever we hold an event, whether it's a NCCC Concours or Autocross, or a NCRS Chaper event, we have always been required to show a copy of our liability insurance BEFORE we can get permission to use the facility....parking lot, car dealership, etc.
Also, it is required that you sign a waiver for all NCCC events, and a "Hold Harmless" agreement for all NCRS events. Chuck
HAve any of you used Assoc. of Chevy Enthusiasts ?? I talked to some folks from a car club that has corvettes, hot rods, etc and they said it was about the best deal out there.
Anyone got an opinion?
