I may be taking a teaching job in Fallon, NV, which is sixty miles east of Reno. Does anyone know about the area? Does it have all the comforts of a comparably-sized city in the east? Are Corvettes readily available there (maybe that's the most important question for this crowd)?

Fallon is a small town. Really the only thing in Fallon is Naval Air Station Fallon. This is a pretty major base where the Navy does a lot of training for carrier air wings before they deploy. The major airspaces and bomb ranges are all to the east (50+).
The main drag is only a couple of miles long. Couple of casinos (Stockman's and The Depot), Wal Mart, and a few motels.
A lot of the people I know who where stationed there lived in Fernley (30 miles west where you get off I-80 to go to Fallon). That is another small town but a lot closer to Reno. Reno does have a lot to do.
For Corvettes, I would go to Reno.
These are my personal observations based on talking to friends who have been stationed there and having spent a total of about 5 months (in 3 week segments) there training over the last 9 years.
BTW: Fallon is the high desert (4000'). Very dry and can be 90-100 in the day and 50 at night.
Steve, thanks for your reply. No surprises in your observations. My friend, Commander Ian Vatet (S-3 NFO) has given his observations too. He said it's a nice place. Take care.
