Default Wiper door spring... help...

Recently got the wiper door to work... but my moment of glory was short lived. After a dozen or so openings/closings, I hear a slight pop, and the door would not open again. Now it won't even stay open manually (there's constant spring tension on it, keeping it closed). I think I traced it down to the tension spring located on the long horizontal rod that's a part of the actuator levers. The spring surrounds a steel tube (which the rod passes through) that's welded to the main lever, and the end of that tube is cut back about 1/2" in the shape of a half moon. Adjacent to the end of that tube (and where the cut is made) is a piece of metal welded to the rod, and where the spring end inserts into, but also looks like it's used as shelf that perhaps that half-moon cut on the tube uses as a stop. So, if this all is correct, how in the world do you get that tube over far enough to once again rest on that shelf? On the other side of the spring and main lever there's a fixed brace. Is there supposed to be a spacer between that brace and the lever to keep the 'tube' in the right position?

I'm just guessing about how this works. If I'm right, please give me some ideas on how to correct this. If you think it's something else, please chime in. Tnx!

Here's a pic...

I can send you some pictures of a good one if you like. I am not sure how it all works. I have several of these wiper door assemblies if you need parts also.

vettemack... Tnx for the pics! That's exactly what the problem was and I was able to give it a temp fix until I replace that bracket. I'll be in touch.
