So I went to install the heat shields between the exhaust manifold and the spark plugs today...
3 of the four went on.
The last one, right-rear, I could not put on, because the hole for the mounting screw appears to have never been drilled, or covered over, or something.
Here is a picture of it. the flat part that the arrow points to is where the hole should be. This is a GM crate motor.
Anyone ever seen anything like this?
Funny I did the same thing when I bought a short block with a brand new block, I first left the one off for a while then decided I did not need those PITA things anyways and took the other three off. With a good set of plug wires/boots and a properly tuned eng you should not have a problem running without them. I melted a couple plug boots when I broke in my cam cuz i was running so WAY lean the manifolds started to glow.

They definately are a PITA! But I was buring wires, so I figured I better put them back on.
But now that you mention that maybe the engine is running to hot due to being poorly tuned, I may also look into that, to see if that is part of the problem.
