Got in my 76 vette for a beautiful evening cruise, backed out of the garage, let it idle while I walked in to get the wife, and saw a stream of gas pouring onto the passenger side exhaust tip, from the muffler mounting strap
I cannot see where the leak (more like flood) is originating, but I did find that Bubba had unbolted 2 hard lines from the top of the frame to allow for a roll bar installation, and the lines are free to rattle around up there. Are they the fuel supply/return ? I am thinking maybe the vibration has loosened the probably deteriorated hose lines to the tank. How do I gain access to the hoses for replacement?
Re: Help please - serious gas leak ! (76Frankenstein)
Took the gas tank out of my 81 last summer, no big deal. I'm not sure if yours will be the same as my 81, but just watch how the tank insulation is placed up on the top of the tank so you can put it back the same way. I made new felt lining for my tank straps out of roofing tar paper, worked great. When I put the tank back up I used a piece of plywood under the tank and jacked it up a little at a time till it was almost all the way up and then reached into the hole where the gas cap is to attach the hoses. It takes a little time , but is not hard to do. Good luck. :seeya
