Default Troubleshooting Interior Lights (Bubba was here!)

Which door jam switch controls the interior lights...the "Door Ajar" switch located at the rear of door or the one up front?

All my wiring has been molested by "Bubba"...I just want the interior lights to function (don't care about the Door Ajar light or the alarm functions)

This is for a '76.

Thanks!

Dr.

The ones on the hinge pillar. Right side has a single orange wire, left side has an orange and a black wire. The ones on the latch pillar are for the door ajar warning circuit and the alarm.

EDIT: Oops! Sorry, the hinge pillar wire colors are white for the courtesy light (on both sides), and black (on driver's side only) for the key warning buzzer.

Hi Dr.
I have a schematic for a 77 but I don't know how close it is to a 76. What I am looking at is power from the CLK LTR CTSY fuse to the lights (courtesy and dome). The lights are turned on by a ground when either door is opened or the headlight switch is turned full CCW. Some models run the door switches through a light timer that shuts off the lights after 10 to 20 sec. The door switches on a 77 are the lower front switches. Check for 12V at the light sockets using a meter to verify power at the socket. I would then check each door switch to make sure it is going to ground when it is fully extended (door open position). The clock and lighter are also on the fuse. As I said I don't know the differences between the 77 and 76 but I would think most of the wire harness would be the same. Hope this was of some help

Thanks to all who responded... I'll have these lights working in no time, and glad I didn't waste time on the latch pillar switches :yesnod:

Steve: You have mail

Thanks again,

Dr.
