My wife and I own a 76 Vette that decided to roll over and play dead. THe problem happened while she was out driving one day, all is fine until she gets in after a stop and tries the key. The key will move but nothing happens. No lights, nadda, nothing. I do some checking and discover that the actuator rod that runs inside the column and down to the ignition switch isn't moving. I fugured I'd take a th column out where I could better work on it but ran into further problems. I have been unable to the bolt out that sets behind the lever that attaches to tha cable to the auto tran. I reconnect the cable and try to move the gear selector to mak room for the bolt to come out but now I am unable to move the gear selector!!! :mad THis is the first Vette I've owned so I don't know alot about them so all suggestions to help me solve this problem would be GREATLY appreciated.
I was also going to "fix" the horn while I was tinkering and found that the previous owner had "FIXED" the horn by connecting the center cap in with a liberal amount of silicone. This car has the telescoping/tilt column in it. How hard is it to tear apart and CORRECTLY fix or should I try to locate a new column?? :banghead:
