Yup...every one had the car's serial number engraved in the dash plaque. The seller will have serious trouble getting someone to bid without good docs, and pictures of the car and ads won't cut it.
God!!!! What a racket Mr. Roesen has made for himself, huh? $1500 a shot to verify whether or not a car was "done" by him?.....Because ONLY HE has the records and people are actually dumb enough to recognize his stuff as special???? Jeez, just think how much $$$ GM would make if they were the same way with the records of all of the Corvettes and other collectors cars they made. Of course at the time they were making 'em they really didn't know that they would be collectible, and I bet Mr. Roesen didn't either. In fact, I liken some of his work to some of the stereo and sunroof installation businesses that are around today. "Let's take a Corvette and see how much gaudy body mods and after market crap we can order from JC Whitney to stick on it and then try to sell it for a profit!!!"
First of all, Rosen made his own body kits and other mods. There are no Whitney parts on these cars. Yeah, it's gaudy, but it was the late 60's/early 70s and that was the thing. I bet you had striped bell-bottoms back then (if you were even born yet).
No thanks for me!!! The Baldwin-Motion (BM for short) cars are the UGLIEST and overdone of any of the COPO "Dealers/Tuners" cars that were made during the 60's.
Yeah, Don Yenko's intials all over the seats of YOUR car isn't overdone?? Whatever. And ugly is in the eye of the beholder. Your mom probably thinks you're not ugly.
I wouldn't have paid a premium to own one of these cars then and I sure as hell wouldn't today.
You are definitely in the minority on this, whether today or in the '60s/'70s. Baldwin Motion is arguably the second most respected COPO name behind Yenko. But it's your money, spend as you choose.
The COPO cars like the Yenkos, Nickeys, Bergers etc. had their place for Chevelles and Camaros etc. because they enabled the customer (and Chevrolet) to sidestep GM's stupid 10lbs/HP rule which pretty much limited the engine sizes to under 400 cu in for anything but a land barge. The Corvette was an exempted from that rule, so why the need for a "Motion" version of it?
Cause the COPOC 'velles and Camaros were kicking the stock Corvette's azz. Nuff said.
I'd just rather have a high horsepower big block 'Vette as Chevrolet intended it! Let Mr. Roesen earn his money elsewhere...maybe by adding sunroofs and stereo's to C5's or maybe ricers.
Again, Rosen's parts were of his design and manufacture. Yenko merely added and engine and a paint job, and there are plenty of fake Yenkos out there. Anyone with a few bucks could try to make a fake Baldwin Motion car because Rosen sold the parts to do it. I spoke with him a few years ago when I found what I thought was a "real" Motion car. Yes, he said it was $1500 to authenticate it, but he also told me there were WAY more fakes than real ones and gave me a few clues on how to tell the difference. He saved me $1495 (it was a long distance call) and yet you think he is profiting from this? If someone is stupid enough run in with the cash before asking any questions they deserve what they get. If you approach people with intelligent, patient questions you will frequently get the same response.
A fool is quickly separated from his money. Mr. Rosen struck me as no fool, though he has evidently met many in his day.
