I bought one of those clear, static cling deck lid protectors. Had it on about a week. The 69 got wet...water got under the static cling....and left MAJOR water marks etched into the paint. When I peeled the static cling gizmo off, I had to rub out and buff the marks left BY the static cling "decklid saver".
I'll put up with the line left by the top. It's smaller. :) Chuck
Re: Does the hardtop mark your paint? (Chuck Gongloff)
I tried the static cling thing when I had my hardtop, and gave up on it, because at freeway speeds the thing would blow off in the wind....get outta position start flapping get torn up....
but I tell you what does work.....
Aluminum a/c tape, artfully applied with a bit of effort that stuff sticks well, adhesive comes off with alchahol, or mineral spirits, and then rewax....
stays forever if you want it to,. whole season of hardtop use...
When I bought my 68, it was my only driver, and in late fall I put the hard top on. In spring, off came the hardtop....the hardtop had rubbed through the paint down to the bare glass...it squuecked and squeeled the whole time it was on...that was the last time the hard top saw any use.
