I have a Holly electric choke which I do not think is opening. The car buzzes over 75mph. What i noticed is if I run at 70 (no vibration) for a while or after a quick stop stop when the engine heat soaks the problem clears up. It runs smooth quieter and accelerates easily to 90 (as fast as I have gone with this car) I suspect there is no thermostat or too low a temp. if there is one.
How does the electric choke sense the temperature?
What is is supposed to be wired up to?
Is there any way to adjust the temperature it comes off?
I leaned it by rotating the plastic housing but that just made it stumble when cold.
:withstupid: I not sure how a vibration relates to the choke not being open. The choke opens after the key is turned on for a couple of minutes. (power to the coil) The engine does not have to be running. Try this; turn the key on an dcheck to see if you have 12 volts to the choke. After it has been on for a while, push the throttle and see if the choke plate stays open. If not then it is messed up.
Also, if you're concerned the choke is causing a specific problem, you could just try removing it temporarily (or permanently :D)... I've been known to <cough> use duct tape to hold open the choke when I'm suspicious about it... My current carb (besides not having an engine attached to it) has the choke removed completely, so no worries there...
