Default Radiator Cap

OK another ? for the forum, what pressure cap are you running?

I have a 14lb cap that is either warn out or to low. I filled up my 4 core radiator and 400 miles later it is 1/2 full. Not going through the motor (that I can tell) prior to filling it the level never moved always was about 3/4 full. What I noticed when filling it is I only have a hose that drains to the ground for over flow. I am thinking that when the radiotor is full the cap is realesing to the overflow premiturly. I had noticed overflow one time but it looked like only 1/4 gal came out.

New 14lb cap or should I step up to a 20lb.

New cap. FYI The current GM replacement is a plastic looking thing, not stainless as original.

I finally found one that didn't leak (and it was not the GM AC/Delco replacement).

Also, install some kind of overflow catch/tank so your overflow doesnt get dumped onto the street..... or your driveway..... or your garage. MJ

I have an 18lb Stant on my car.
I have a pressure tester for my cooling system that will check the cap too. When I need a new cap, I will take my tester into the store and check the cap before I buy it. I went thru 5 caps in the store before I could find one that would hold pressure. The parts guy stood and watched in disbelief.
