Good luck! I did mine on my '74 454 while the engine was out, I don't think I could have gotten them in otherwise, there is less than 1/8" clearance, I used the Hooker Super Comps, and had them ceramic coated.
I love them now, but what a B!*#H! to get them in, then the side pipes were another story alltogether to get on.
But I wouldn't give them up now. What inserts are you using? I've got the glasspacks, and probably should have done the JCL Sprirals. But, then again, I like it really LOUD!

Enjoy, and good luck.

David,
Unless you have a very mild BB in there, you are killing power with the Hooker glasspacks vs. the JCL's. I tried the glasspacks first and had them in there less than 40 miles...I could tell they were robbing power. Put the JCL's in and power increased _substantially_. Plus, the JCL's are louder than the Hooker glasspacks... since you said you like it loud, I thought I'd give my input. :)
Quick question, do the factory OEM covers fit over these aftermarket sidepipes like Hooker's??
Quick answer, NO
Rod your car is going to look great with those pipes on there. DO yourself a favor and consider the heat shields from JCL, if you children never get burnt by your pipes, then they are well worth it ;) .
OH- and I usually have to start the car & rev it some when ever the sidepipes are off for that quick dragster sound :p:
