I bought this convertable driver earlier this year for my wife and it's our first vette. I've been introduced to the brakes already (not fun) and now the clutch needs replacing.
Can this 4 speed trans be dropped without moving the engine? The cross member is welded in and It looks tight to me. Car is in the air right now and I'm not convinced it can be done so I'm here asking for experience.
That's correct... manual trans cars have welded crossmembers. Automatics are removable. You can take the trans out... You do have to remove the exhaust system though. Don't forget to block up the rear of the engine so that the distributor cap won't get crushed on the firewall.
If you have side pipes just remove the shifter and the trans will come out. You have to rotate the trans just slightly on the way out. Mike69 and I removed his M21 from his sidepipe 69 in about 1/2 hour. Easy with the exhaust out of the way.
