I've been told that very, very fine steel wool is great for polishing hot coated headers. I've also heard other saying they used Mother's aluminum polish.

Would they be the headers on your Honda built 327 small block with the aluminium body???
If so try a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a gauze pad.

This isn't probably very safe (!) but I've just cleaned my ceramic coated headers with a rag soaked in petrol (fuel, gas). It removed all the burnt on oil & fingerprints & even took off the baked on skin.

Jet-Hot sent cleaning instructions with my newly coated headers and they say just soap and water will do the job. The hotter the water the better.
