Default 3" pipes for a 1970?

Does anyone here know of someone who makes a 3" exhaust kit for C3 Vette's? Ive got a 1970 350 4sp, and wanted to upgrade to 3", if I cant find them, who makes a good 2.5" set? Currently I am running Hooker Comp headers with 3" collectors, then reduced down to 2.25"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

any good exhaust shop can fab up a set of pipes for you, that would be the best route to go.

go with 2 1/2 " pipes. 3" you will have a hard time gettting them through your cross member and keeping them from rattleing if you have a big cam.

Nobody makes a 3 inch system. Only a few 2 1/2 inch systems. I had mine custom made and it fits like a dream. You do not need a 3 inch system for a 350. 2 1/2 inch is plenty unless you are spinning it past 7500 rpm and making well over 500 HP. The guy who did mine (he builds exaust for race cars also) said I am good to well over 500 HP. 3 inch is a very tight fit. 2 1/2 is a better choice.

Who makes a good 2.5" kit, and is it possible to fit an "H" or "X" pipe underneath?

Thanks for all the help.

:iagree: I had mine done at an exhaust shop. No problems with anything banging around on it.

I had mine (21/2 inch) made up in Ohio at http://www.Stainlessworks.net
They also do other work with 3".

Mine have great sound. Reason I went with these guys is they mandrel CNC bend everything. I also got some "hotrod" style tips which were made out of nice colid stainless steel and polished.

If you cannot find a local shop to make a custom system then I would reccommend these guys. Talkt to Al or Matt.

You will need to order the 2 1/2 inch exhaust mount ($20 from Volunteer Corvette) to bolt up the pipes. THe old brack just will not hold it.

Good luck.

Dr. Gass I believe make s a 2&1/2" X pipe. I had mine put in a few inches behind the crossmember. What Gordonm said and also mandrel bends are better, not all shops do it that way though.

Regards, Mark

Either will work, I have the X pipe. There is thread up about X vs H right now, so I'd check that out.

I was also debating on 3" pipe. I have a '77 that I'm dropping a 525hp 383ci into that will redline @6500. I'm not sure if the 2.5 will be enough, I might go 3" or maybe even hooker headers and sidepipes
