Local credit union did mine. I had good history with 'em and the manager basically said " if it's worth that to you, we'll loan on it". Needed an appraisal and she wanted to see it, but that was it.
Want-A-Vette, I seem to have been misquoted above. I recommended the equity line, but got credit for the "don't finance".
First of all, I agree with the "don't finance" if you can manage it, but I don't particularly agree that financing a used car is a bad idea. Just think what a worse idea financing a NEW car is. Talk about losing money right out of the box  If you're like me and you want a car and you don't have the 10, 20, or 30 grand to drop on a new or old one, financing is about the only option (other than waiting, and while practical, what fun is that!). I haven't put a whole lot of money in mine, except for the purchase price, and I think it beats the heck value-wise (not to mention the FUN factor) out of any new car I could have bought at the time.
Second, and more importantly, WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING TALKING TO RATTY82 ??? That guy is just BAD NEWS ;)
