If you have any experience with the Torker II please share it. I just had a local race engine builder tell me I won't like the manifold becuase I'll loose all low end. This guy has been around a long time so he has me wondering what to do. He said my primary problem is the automatic trans. I would think a 2000 or so stall converter would take care of this????
I have a 73 with a 454, so my intake choices are very limited.
When I replaced a Performer with a Torker II on my 327 I didn't notice any difference in low end power. Unlike the race single planes, the Torker II has relatively small runners in order to maintain low rpm velocities and is actually more street friendly than some of the bigger dual planes. Of couse that won't stop those without actual experience with one from lumping it together with race only manifolds and condemning it.
If performance is the priority, the higher stall would probably be a good idea regardless. What cam are you running? Gears?
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
Re: Edelbrock Torker II Experience (bigvette1)
YOu have to wonder if any of these people have ever compared these manifolds I put on a Victor Jr. intake single plane ( don't get much racier than that ) and did not notice any torque loss over the RPM Air Gap dual plane by the seat of my pants as a matter of fact the chassis dyno said I had more right across the board from 2000 RPM to 6000RPM, go figure. :D
Correct. The only bb manifolds that will fit under the stock hood are the LS6 and Torker II. However, if you go with an L88 (or similar hi-rise) hood, you've got lots more options. I can't give you any comparisons, but I will tell you my bb runs fine :yesnod: with the Torker II.
There has been a ton of discussions about the Torker II, most in a negative light. Good to see there are success stories on the manifold. Questoins:
- Is the TII capable of both a Holley and Q-Jet - duel pattern mounts?
- Leave the runners alone - or do people try to gasket match?
- Does the manifold have provisions for all the stuff (except EGR) that a BB has mounted on it?
I had a poor TorkerII experience. I put one on a '79 F@rd 302.
The cam was left alone - so it was poorly matched.
Low end performance was definitely sacrificed, and there was no upper band to begin.
I think a BB would breath a bit heavier and have better results, especially
if the cam was bumped up a notch.
