While at Funfest yesterday I noticed several 69 that didn't have expansion tanks. My car has a metal ribbed fan shroud and an expansion tank. the ones I saw had plastic shrouds and no expansion tank. What gives?
1 car was an AC car, several were not. Mine is not an ac car. The person I rode up with hasa survivor 69 that is the AC car. Completely different radiator, shroud and no expansion tank.
Mine has the long brass expansion tank (painted black) and no cap on the radiator. A/C cars only used this set-up. There were several radiator/tank combinations.. Base engine cars had an aluminum radiator. None had recovery tanks though.
Base motor '69's with 4 speed and no A/C came with an ~18" core aluminum radiator with an external supply tank. They had a ribbed metal shroud
L-46 smallblocks, or base motor cars with A/C and/or TH400 trans came with a 26" core copper/brass radiator with no external supply tank. The shroud for this combination was plastic.
Big block cars used a 27" copper/brass radiator with external supply tank. They also used the plastic shroud.
