hi all i am from australia and i have got an 81 vette, my problem is for the last five months ive been cruisin and just yesterday i found out that the anti theft system (factory) actually works.now you might say great, but i cant find control switch which is supposed to be in front left hand guard, and now shes totally immobilised and wont let me drive her.help me please
If it is the stock alarm system, the system is activated when you lock the doors and close them. If the door are opened from the inside..such as, you have the t tops off and the window up/down and you reach in and hit the power locks then open the door the alarm will go off..horns blarring and all. If you put your key that opens the door into the drivers lock cylinder and turn it..it will deactivate the alarm system..and be ready to be re-armed once you lock the doors again. Doors, hood, starter and t tops are all triggered with the factory alarm system. Good luck and hope this helps!

Re: anti theft woes (81' Corvette Guy)
I have found out that on my car, the alarm is only activated if you lock the drivers side from the outside with the key. If I use the inside power door lock button and then shut the door (like a normal car) then the alarm does nothing.

BSeery try this...roll down your windows, lock you doors from the inside and close them like you were leaving the car. Now reach inside the open window and unlock the door with the power lock and open the door from the outside and see what happens. If I remember correctly, was on a date having a picnic and had the tops off and windows rolled up with the doors locked. Didn't have my keys right there with me, so I reached over the top of the window and hit the unlock button and opened the door from the outside...the horns went blarring. Try this and let me know.
If you locked your doors from the inside and closed them..then you would have to use the key to open the door..yes?..thus, deactivating the stock alarm...makes sense doesn't it?? I would think if you locked the door with your power locks you would automatically set the alarm. Would be a real PIA to have to lock your doors with the interior lock buttons then go and manually have to "relock" the drivers door lock from the outside to arm the alarm...lets us know.
Thanks, Joe..peace <*)))><

yup gave it a try joe, what i found is if i lock the doors with the keys, the alarm doesnt arm.but if i lock the doors with the power locks and then close the doors it will arm.unlocking with the keys switches the alarm off.
the town i live in in australia has only 4 corvettes that i know of so i think it is something special to belong to a group of people who really love their cars.Talking with people with the same interests feels really great and i am proud to fly the crossed flags down under. :flag. my little lady (my vette) turns heads where ever she goes, and it is special to take my wife or son out for a cruise. To all corvette people, a big salute from down under :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: :hurray:
