I also have a boat that gets mildew from sitting inside a "Cover-it" garage.. Will armoral or alternative stop that?

Thanks in advance!

I used to Armorall the crap out of my boat before storing. It didn't seem to help one bit.

I never heard about it weakening threads but I know for certain it will turn your tires brown.

There have to be some alternative products you could use. What do the folks over in the Car Care section say?

Meguires Tire Gel has to be the best that I have tried so far, stays black for months.

Armor-All is loaded with silicone, and I've been told/heard that silicone enhances or promotes the growth of mildew. It's the mildew that "eats" at the sewing threads in your upholstery. Fact? Myth? Don't know, but that's what I've heard. Chuck

I drive my corvettes..so it sits in the sun during the day. For years I have used suntan OIL (not lotion) with the highest UV number I can find. usually around 30. This works great and smells good too. The oily look goes away in a few minutes. I never have had a cracked dash. At on time there was a bulletin about NOT using armoral on dashes as it promotes drying from the alcohol content.

Check out 303 Products (http://www.303products.com). Nice stuff and it seems to work very well. Heard about it on a C5 thread on the same subject.

Thanks for the info.. Wonder if it would stain carpets? My wife uses some stuff in the shower and no mildew so I don't doubt this works BUT I wonder how it would work with material..ie.. threads..

Its never stained my carpet. While not aiming at the carpet I do spray it on the door panels all the time.

Here are some of the links. I'm not sure which convinced me or even if its in here as I did not read them all. There are more.

 I would not put Amoural on anything let alone tires, all I know is something that is not black but clear and can "magically" make your tires go black is sucking the black out of somewhere and that somewhere is the tire itself and this can only be done a few times before said tire starts to turn brown or grey

I see a lot of Armor-All slamming. But I've used the stuff, and stuff like it (Son of a Gun) for at least 15 years, and I've seen no issues. Tires turning brown? I dunno. They look black as night when I put the Armor All on. I figure if they look a little brown, that's just because the stuff wore off and I'm comparing the color to the ultimate black when they've been sprayed. Can a product really "suck the black" out of tires?

Probably dosen't suck the black out, but I have never seen a black rubber tree so there is dye in there and Amoural brings that to surface over and over again and it wears out

I know FOR A FACT that it does NOT prevent mildew. My boat got pretty bad after only 6 mo. of this FL crap. It was JUST redone by a friend.

The black is simple carbon black. Tires could be green if they could find a cheap substitute for the black and the public would buy it (it has been considered) . It has two purposes:

1. To color the tire.
2. Most importantly to absorb ultraviolet rays (UV) so the "rubber" compound does not break down prematurely.

However it is a sacrificial ingredient. After long exposure to UV the tire starts to turn gray or lighter. What tire cleaners do to effect this I have no idea.
