What is the correct method to determine production dates for C3 alternators. I understand the month having a corresponding "alpha" code, but what about the numbers before and after the month letter? Which signifies the year, and which signifies the day of the month?
My alternator code is "7D1". It's probably not original to my '70, but what do these numbers tell me? April production of 1967/1977 on April 1st, or production on April 7th of 1971/1981?
"April production of 1967/1977 on april 1st," according to my book your correct in how you read the code but I can't tell if was '67 or 77 either

Re: Deciphering alternator codes (HEARTBEATUSA)
If it was built April 1st 1967 it would be an externally regulated unit. if it has the regulator inside (flat plug vs square plug) it wouldn't have been built in '67. '69 (I believe) was the 1st year for internal regulated altenator.
