Default Fuel strainer replacement help needed (pics)

Here is a pic of the fuel pickup tube and the torn sock. It was crimped onto the fitting on the end of the tube. I have ordered a replacement strainer, 2nd pic shown below. Problem is, I cannot remove the 3/8 crimped fitting from the tube. Is it held by the flared end of tube, sweated on, crimped or what? How should I attach the replacement ? TIA for any info.

Pulled mine out the other night and just worked it off by twisting a flat screwdriver around the sleeve. My question is do they all turn black? Should you be able to see through it? How do you tell when it’s bad? I’m replacing mine along with a new pump.

Thanks for the help...I ended up cutting the fitting with a dremel and peeling it off in 2 sections..it was a very tight press fit!

Dremel tool, probably the handiest tool in my tool box! It has saved my azz more than once. I have no idea how I ever got anything done before I had one.
