The speedometer cable has been burnt through by the headers. Where does it connect to the Manual transmission? how hard is it to replace the sheath?
Thanks
Your answer may vary on the type of engine you have. I believe that on C3 big blocks the cable attaches to the passenger side of the transmission at the tailshaft housing. It may be different for small blocks. Anyone with a '73 know the answer?
You may want to just follow it down under the car and see where it attaches. Typically, replacing a speedometer cable is not all that hard.
Buy the whole cable and replace it, that is what I did when mine burnt through. You can find the connection at the rear of the trans at an 'L' shaped adaptor, it has a connection like the tach cable to tach drive at that end. The other end that is connected to the actual speedo has a snap on connection and is a biatch to get to without taking the dash panel out. If you go by feel there is a tang that sticks out toward the front of the car that you need to pull down on and hold then slid the cable out. The new cable will snap back into much easier than the old one coming out.
Very cool. I have had the dash out and I looked after I put it back and I can get to the back of the speedo. The car has the 350 in it.
Thanks for the reply.
