I would like to convert my standard steering column in my 71 to a Tel/Tilt. The seem to be expensive and harder to find than the later year C3 columns. Will a later year fit or do I need to spend the $$$ for a rebuilt early version. :hurray:
This article has everything I was able to find on fitting the new column into the older C3s. The only unknown is how the original plastic shroud under the column would match up to the new column.
I would be real interested in how you make out with this project. If I can be of any further assistance, just post or eMail me direct.
Someone did this to my car at some time in the past... As a matter of fact, I have JUST (last friday) finally gotten a straight 68 steering column, and plan to do the swap back to that shortly... So i'll have a spare later model (I think, it could be an early one) tilt-tele column shortly if theres any interest. Also I can take a look at differences once I have it out.
As I mentioned in an eMail today, the old 67-68 column is much different than the 1969-76 column. They mount differently and have different electrical connections. The real question is if they cobbled the car or did they cobble the steering column to adapt the newer column to the older vette.
