I took apart the driveshaft that came with my project car to clean, paint, replace ujoints etc. Bought the new joints & discovered they didn't fit the drivshaft yokes. Turns out the drivshaft is not for my car, but I don't know the correct application. Here's what I know:
Part # on tag - self stick label - 378231
Trans yoke appears to be for a Muncie, at least it fits mine anyway casting shows " SPICER 2-1469"
Driveshaft yokes are " SPICER D2137 T8B"
U-joint flange on the rear measures 3.220"
U-joint flange on the trans yoke measures 3.6220"
Center to center lenght of just the shaft measures 29 1/2"
Re: Need some help identifing a driveshaft (70BBvert)
Was the driveshaft working? I mean was it in the car with the engine and trans in and did everything hook up correctly? I'm looking in my interchange manual and that driveshaft number doesn't appear to be from a Vette.
Re: Need some help identifing a driveshaft (79VetteMike)
No - it wasn't in the car. Bought the car as a project, so most of it was disassembled already. The driveshaft was tagged "70 Vette". Never thought about it until I got to changing out the u-joints. I figured it wasn't from a vette, just figured someone might have the interchange book & could ID the correct application.
Re: Need some help identifing a driveshaft (70BBvert)
Here's what I found out - figured I'd share. 4 spped driveshafts are 29 7/8" long while autos are 29 1/2", u-joint center to center. 68-70 4spped driveshafts are 2" diameter. In 71 The driveshaft was changed to a 2 1/2" diameter. Auto driveshafts were 2 1/2" from 68-79.
Anyone need a driveshaft for a 68-79 with turbo 400 trans? :)
