I have an '81 vette that I'm removing the computer carb and distributor from. I've purchased an Edelbrock 1406 carb... but am unsure about what to purchase for a distrubutor. I'm looking at the Mallory Comp 9000 Unilite Electronic Distributor. I guess my big question is.... with the original distributor, I just had the dist. and the in-cap- coil. What all do I need to replace those? Just the 9000 unilite? Or do I need a separate coil? Is anything else needed.
I dont know of any other dist that has coil in cap other than the HEI. So if you ditch the HEI you will need to add other components. At least a coil and maybe an ignition controll unit. im not familiar with the Mallory you mention. it really depends on what that system requires.
Personally, I think the HEI is a great dist. Why ditch it? Instead perhaps you could swap in a non- computor controlled HEI. Heres a link to a company who makes very nice HEI's for performance applications. http://www.performancedistributors.c...stributors.htm
