as some of you know, i am re-doing my interior...
i would like to dye my dash AND the black dashpad on top...
is it hard to remove or should i mask and spray it in the car???
i have never done this...
what about removing bolts etc and pulling it away from the windshield a little to make masking and dying easier???
I'd have to say remove it. (It will make it easier to clean and dye.)
I don't know about the 79, but on the 74 the right order to remove things is: right panel, all windshield molding, top dash, and left panel---this last one being a bitch, because of all the wires and cables behind it and steering column (which should be dropped, to give you more room to maneuver).
The 80 wasn't bad. I had EVERYTHING else out of the interior first, though. That probably made it easier. There are more screws/bolts in it than the manual made me think IIRC. Good luck. (I was going to replace mine for a small crack, but had to go to FL for a couple of years, so I put it back in for lack of storage space  )
I pulled it out so it could be cleaned well before coloring it. After it was out I spent some good hours making it pretty again. All went very well until I put it back in. It is awkward to get around the window pillars and just as it was going to slip in the vinyl split at the speaker hole. Arrgh!!!!! :smash:
500+ dollars and two weeks later I had a nice new dash that didn't need to be recolored black. :D
If you pull it (and 79 is same as 82) there are some clips under the windshield. You have to unhook it from them to get it out.
below is a pic from yesterday...tonight i removed the console around the shifter and some other stuff...
where can i find some detailed info on removing it?
pix would be great too!? :D
Go here as it may help...took mine out of my 79...http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=589990
My seats were out as well which made everything very simple to get at. The 2 clamps up under the dash were the toughest...one I got thru the glove box, the other (near the tach/speedo enclosure) I got thru the empty space once I removed the center gauge cluster. Do a search as I can't recall how many screws/bolts had to be removed.
