What did GM change on the engine from '82 to '84? I see in the Black Book that the '84 was 5 hp more, but they don't explain how they got it. Was it just a PROM chip change or what?
I am asking because I'm wondering if I could use the "84 PROM chip in my '82, as there are no updated '82 PROMs available. Does anybody know if this would work?????
I am in the dark on that chip. I just thought I'd look for a GM chip first. As long as the aftermarket chip were designed after the factory updated chip, it would be fine I guess.
My understanding the is exhaust difference made the 5hp and possibly the air intake set-up may have contributed slightly-to a minute, itsy-bitsy degree. Kind of like a bumper sticker.
The Hypertech chip does work in the 82 but really not worth the money spent for it. All it does is add a few more degrees timing at WOT. I use to have one in my 82. The one nice thing about it is the no TCC lockup at low speeds in lower gears.
Installing a 7747 ecm, Programming and burning your own prom's is the best way to get it like you want it.
