Default removing capiper pistons/seals

How do you remove the old pistons and seals when converting to o-ring setup?
Do you remove the boot first? Then what? Thanks.

The soft steel ring at the bottom of the boot that fits into the caliper body holds the piston & spring in. You can tap the blade of a small flat screwdriver between the caliper body & the ring & then pry the ring out. The ring is very soft so don't worry the caliper won't get damaged.

:iagree:

Pop them out and hammer the new ones in. But use a large socket over the new seals to make sure you put even pressure.

Thanks, turned out to be quite easy. I pushed the piston down with the screwdriver so I could leverage under the top outer ring. The whole piston/seal assembly just press fits into a shallow counterbore at the surface of the caliper.

If you are daring you can use compressed air! If you do, be sure and put some wood between the caliper halves and wear safety glasses...........

on my truck the piston froze (1 piston floating caliper) and geez it was stuck, I put 150psi of air pressure on the caliper and the piston came out very eaasily.
