Put classic insurance on the car from someone like Hagerty or Grundy or American Collectors. It will probably cost you $200 a year for full coverage, and that's for a full 12 months.
To be honest, owning my 82 is cheaper than owning my 98 Blazer ZR2. It gets better gas mileage, has cheaper insurance, and I have collector plates which allowed me to not pay any real sales tax and I never have to pay for registration tabs again, as long as I own the car.
Cant beat that with a stick.
PS Saw your other thread. Good Job, thats putting your ***** out there.
I thought about Haggerty, but what are the terms? I still drive my car (not daily) and am unsure if I will qualify. Thanks for the tip, by the way. If by putting my ***** out you mean getting them stomped on, you're right.
The terms are your not supposed to drive the car to work or race it at a drag strip. After that, your pretty much free to go do what you want.
They just need a picture- such as one from your website, which you can e-mail them and go fill out their on-line form with your credit card number and thats about it. -painless.
Also check your state DMV for classic plates and you will save a ton that way too. MN says you need to have a primary or second vehicle and your classic must be 20 years old. Thats it. No driving restrictions whatsoever. I drive my vette EVERYWHERE.
In what sense? The payments and insurance and gas aren't too kind, but you have to pay the price to drive something you really like as opposed to a generic, newer economical car.
Well, no payments. I bought mine with cash. My insurance will become more affordable when I get classic car insurance, but the fuel! oh lord, lol! I meant nickle & dime repairs. So many little things to fix, maintain or improve on. Parts and sometimes labor. Mine is a typical hot chick. She wants and wants and wants me to spend my money on her, and of course I do because I'm p whipped.

Because you are now going BRA LESS, you have to go on the Jerry Springer Show to get beads, then you have to go on Maury's show and cry about the abuse you took from the bad drivers that drove too close to the front of your vette. Lets have real big tears now. ON!
So what's the deal? You insure your daily driver with Geico and your Corvette with Great American. I've got my "look, I'm a 16 cheerleader whose daddy bought me a BMW" BMW 320i for daily driving and is insured with another company. I would, then, qualify for Great American, right? I just want to pay less but know that I will still be covered.
By the way, I am a male, but my comment relates to the fact that a lot of hot chicks and not many dudes at my high school drove old 320is.

Yep, that's the deal. However, I am affraid you would not qualify under the Great American rules and regulations as I understand them. What your paying now (if full coverage) is a very good price.
19vette79, Might I say welcome to the best forum you will find anywhere. I thought I might offer my 2 cents on Hagerty Insurance. I was very pleased they agreed to cover my 75. It is mostly stock, I didn't build it with the intention of racing it, just wanted a decent restored vette. They are covering my car at an agreed value of $20,000.00, full coverage, and road side assistance (towing they will pay the first 50 bucks). The cost is $175 per year. The rules are you need to have a daily driver car insured by someone else, and they will ask you for how many miles per year you drive the vette. They will limit you to a fairly low number of miles. If your car is modded out the premiums may be higher, or they may elect to not cover it at all. If your driving record is not squeaky clean you may also have problems. I think the Company is very fair, and has a great reputation. I have not had a claim, hope I never do, but it's hard to beat their service from what I have experienced so far. Don't worry about your user name, it's just a handle that seperates you from everyone else.
