I voted "lose it", but I don't really think it looks bad. If it was mine, I would perhaps prefer a different wing design, or at least the wing a little less tall (maybe just shorten it by an inch or two)?
Granted, wings tend to look better on coupes than on verts.
Also a consideration would be which color you plan to paint it? (And will you need to change your forum nick ;)) And as somebody else asked, is the wing functional, in which case keep it!
hay
i have the same year, same color but without the stripe. I like the stripe and the letters on the back ,and i love the mags but the spoiler ?
whatever you like go for it :seeya
Don't have the Cragar's anymore.. I sold them to Greg (GDH). Right now - I have 2 sets of rims: Centerline Auto Drags for the Street and Centerline Convo Pros for the Track...
Losing or keeping the spoiler is a tough decision... I didn't like it too much initially when I bought the car.. but it kinda grew on me... Still have to make that decision.. and it's not an easy one...
Lose it and then do the black paint with metallic grey strips like Lasse's vette.
Add some 17s on front with 255/50s and 18s on the rear with 275/40s. Chrome roll bar hoops would be cool too. Its been said before, its fun spending other peoples money. :jester
Brent...
That's the paint scheme that I'm going to use... I love Lasses car and paint scheme... I am considering upgrading my wheels to 17 inch on my street setup... Getting rid of the wing is a tough decision.. I personally don't think that it's anywhere close to being ricey because it's integrated into the body.. Furthermore - the car is fast... Rice means : Only looks but no power... My 68 is probably faster than the C3's of 90+% of all forum members...
Oliver,
Is the spoiler functional? If not, then lose it. If it actually aids in downforce, and you NEED it on the vette, then I say keep it.
I don't really know if it's functional.. It was added by the original owner who had a bodyshop... It is a one of a kind spoiler... You won't see any other car with a similar one... The uniqueness of the spoiler is one of the reasons that I might keep it.. I still have some time to make my final decision...
I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do... I might stay with the current scheme.. but I really like the black/silver scheme...
Nooooooooo!!! Stay with the blue/white but lose the wing. I wanted to do my stripe in silver (with ZL1 flares) whenever I finally get to painting my car. There needs to be some minimum distance between cars that look similar. I'd say Detroit to Miami is about far enough though.
I voted to keep the spoiler but I'm really trying to be unbiased. I have a unique '69 in that it has a wraparound rear window ('78-'82 [non opening]), rear fender flares and front fenders with the egg-crate gills ('70-'72). I would like to go back to stock appearance, but I'll keep the rear fender flares; they help hide the 295/50-15s in the rear. I don't know what I'll do with the front meats, probably step down to 275 or so.
Back to your car. The only reason I would ditch the spoiler is because it kinda makes the body more "busy." Having said that, with your front tilted open, it would balance out the car in a visual aspect. In standard trim (doors closed, hood closed, trunk closed) the tail pulls a person's eyes to the back of your car (heh, damn I sound like a photographer talking...) This could be good or bad, that's up to you. I was noticing the lines of your car without the tail and everything flowed much more smoothly. I don't know how much clearance you have up front, but maybe a chin spoiler added with the tail would be an idea???
Whatever you decide- :chevy :seeya  I wanna be in that 10% "fast" category one of these days. I'm only 25 and have plans for a T56 + LS1/6 punched out to 400+ cubic inches. That's if I don't have the money for that GM ZL-1 block and some turbos :D one day, one day...
Oliver:
Along with the majority of Forum members, I too am a traditionalist. A small spoiler on back is OK...but your current one is not to my likeing either....Loose it!!!
