I have had the chance to visit this forum for a few days now. I'm very impressed with the wealth of knowledge i see here. I just bought my first vette for 4000 bucks, and it will be a project that i think i have waited for for quite a spell! If you can invision a 80 vette that someone rebuilt about 10 years ago...then thats a good view. The man i bought it from said it set in a horse barn for 8 years. From what he tells me the horses loved to chew at the tops. Maybe they were just trying to see if there were anymore ponys in there ! The interior needs reworked , engine rebuilt , new paint , etc. Now that i have bit off more than i can chew.....please wish me good luck :)
Hi, welcome and congratulations! The membership of this Forum have been incredibly helpful to me and my new "old" '79. If your Vette is doing something it should not, or not doing something it should, chances are someone here has already dealt with it. Just ask! Please post some before and after pics too!!
Oh, and a word of advice. If anyone suggests that you should post a message seeking "clowns", DON'T!, lol. I guarantee there are none here. :jester

Medic: When did you notice your husband was not breathing?
Bereaved wife: I went to the mail box and there were no bills for car parts.
Before you begin think about what you want this car to be. NCRS restoration, Fun driver, custom show car, et al.
Then set about making a plan and try to follow it. There are going to be plenty of "while I am at it" adittions. A plan will send you in the right directon on your project. For example if you want a hot street machine instead of a rebuild perhaps a crate engine will serve you better. If you want a NCRS show car and you have a NOM and drive train you may want to reset your goals or get another car. 80's are not considered collectible cars at this time so sinking big bucks into one is probably not a good idea.
Above all good luck and have fun. Do as much work as you can and enjoy the learning process. This board can be a great teacher as most people here have done these tasks before anbd are very willing to share experiences.
Well , thanks for all the warm welcomes. I spent about a week just looking the car over , and under. I realize my car is not a collectors item , though i am still glad of my choice. I really like the body style of the 80. Some of the things i plan on doing is rebuilding the stock engine , a bit of minor bodywork , paint , and trying to figure out what has happened to the rear spring. The top three springs have shifted. I also am trying to figure out what is going on with the engine. It is leaving black marks on my garage floor. Maybe to rich? I have a little bit of moisture comeing out of the tailpipes. Maybe a head gasket? Someone put a eldebrock intake and carb on it and headers. It acts like there is a different cam in it. Im sure i well know more when i rebuild the engine. Thanks again for the kind welcome , and all the good luck wishes...i well probly need it !I would like to be finshed working on it in a years time.
