Default Head casting 3931063

I just removed the valve cover from my 73 454 and was surprised to find the heads are casting # 3931063,
were used from 69-70,
valve size 2.06/1.72
with a HP rating of 325-400 on a 396 to 427 engine.

Since these heads were only used on a 396 to 437 engine I'm concerned the port volume may be too small for a 454. I am happy to learn that they are closed chamber at 101cc so my compression ratio is better than expected.

Does any have an opinion on how well these heads will work on my 454 after a decent cam is installed?

Instead of getting new aluminum heads, I could just get these ported I guess.

Any comments appreciated.

These will work well with some bowl blending and maybe upgrade to 2.19/1.88 valves. A lot less than buying new ones unless the guides are all shot and you want hardened exhaust seats.

How can I tell what the size of the intake and exhaust runners are? I can't find anything on the web.

They are decent heads, 260 cc intakes they are ok for a mild 454. You could always have a little work done to them, bowl work bigger valves, etc.
