I just bought a stock 77' Vette and as we all know it came with 180 horsepower. I'm definitely gonna need more than that. If anyone knows about parts that offer great performance at an affordable price i'd love suggestions. As of now I am thinking of a new 700r4 transmisson, headers, pistons, camshaft, supercharger etc. If you have any suggestions about what you or others have done and how it helped and where to locate these parts that would be great. I definitely dont want to get smoked by some kid in a civic.
Re: More Power from the 77' L-48 Please! (somethingerother)
all depends on your cash flow and how good you are with tools. with a grand to play around with you can add an intake, new carb cam. that would be a good start.

Please don't waste your money on another carb. That can wait until much later.
Exhuast is your #1 priority. Duals are a must. 2 1/2" is most often recommended, but it depends how far you intend to go. 2" would be fine for a mild setup. Headers are important too, but won't really matter until you get better heads.
Somewhere in there you need to get a higher stall converter or new trans, and possibly higher diff gears (but that depends if you want standing acceleration or highway ability.)
I started with the same car and added what you can see in my sig. The cam dropped my 1/4 times about .7 seconds. I'm doing suspension at the moment, don't neglect that or you will have a car with lots of potential and no delivery :nonod:

Ex. is first.
See what many refer to as my Exhaust topic. http://www.corvettefaq.com/c3/ganeyexhaust.htm
Dynomax Cerma coated headers for performance.
Then cam, good time to do intake as well.
Then engine build or trans.
