Re: Attention: All Side Pipe Vette Owners (OHSIXX)
I have a set of NOS GM pipes with fiberglass covers. They are much quiter than I thought they would be. With the windows up at cruise speed it sounds the same as the original exhaust. Overall I am pleased with them. Someday I will convice myself that I need a set of the chrome original style covers. :banghead:
Re: Attention: All Side Pipe Vette Owners (OHSIXX)
Hi,
I am running Stahl headers with STS side pipes and inserts. Can't say enough about the Jim's side pipes and spiral inserts. The one thing I appreciate the most is they are not obnoxious especially when cruising. You know the engine is running but it isn't deafening.

I have chrome Hooker sides with Hooker mufflers on my 72. Sound is fair, performance sucks and the leg burns hurt like hell. The chrome takes much maintenance to keep nice, but the pipes at the head take more maintenance to keep from blueing....but I love it!! I want to change those mufflers ASAP.

Re: Attention: All Side Pipe Vette Owners (OHSIXX)
I have the Hooker ceramic-coated headers and sidepipes for my 1977 Drag-vette. They look great but the primaries are way too big for the average small-block (1 7/8"). I've actually lost mid-range torque and power by switching out to these (as noted by slightly higher E.T.'s). They would probably work better in the Big small blocks like 420 c.i. and larger with high-flow heads.

Re: Attention: All Side Pipe Vette Owners (OHSIXX)
My car without the pipes appeared less aggressive, see pic above ths past spring. I installed the system in a weekend, including the STS baffles which are a must for performance and sound. The car draws more attention with the new exhaust. However, I did manage to burn by wife's leg.

Factory '69 sidepipes with original covers. Sounds ok, but not as loud as I like. The ticket would be to get the '63-'67 sidepipes. They sound much better than the C3 sidepipes.
I was never a fan of sidepipes. After having them on for a few years they've grown on me. If you have a bumpy cam in your car you'll really appreciate them! :D
