OEM alarm wiring
I assume the rear most pin switch at the 4:00 position behind the door on my '76 is the alarm pin? I see the one in the forward position operates the lighting. That rear pin switch was bent up so I unscrewed it to replace it and found that the wiring needs help. One of the wires is not showing and the other one's connector came off inside.
This left me with just a single bare-ended wire coming out of the hole :cuss and I wonder where to get access to the wiring in that area, so that I can correct the problem. If I peel up the carpet am I going to find a magic access panel to the alarm wiring or should I just snip the wire and tuck it inside, plugging the hole with the new switch? :blueangel:
The car has a Viper alarm and uses the current from the door pin switches to excite the anti theft alarm and ignition kill. It doesn't use these rear mounted pin switches at all.
Access is through the small panel in the rear fender wells. You don't want a wire just hanging in there with +12v on it, make sure you do the right thing and fully cover any exposed wire strands if you do just shove it in there.
Not sure about your 76, but the switch that you refer to in the 4 o'clock position in my 69 is the "door ajar" switch. The alarm uses the courtesty light switch in the front door jamb.
In any case, to gain access to that wiring, take off the rear wheel, remove the 4 screws that hold the body mount access plate. Then, take off the quarter panel trim inside the car. You'll see the wiring, and actually be able to pull it out and make repairs. You can buy new correct connectors to work with your switch. Be careful putting the switch back in, as you'll twist the wiring, and have to start all over again. Chuck
