Today I started my car and it wasn't running right so I went to increase idle. The car acted like it was ready to stall, then all of a sudden the alarm went off. I have no idea how to get it to shut off. Does anyone have any suggestions?
This probably has nothing to do with what you explained but, my alarm would go off sometimes while driving...just a blip now and then. I then locked the car and then unlocked it with the key in the drivers door and that stopped it from going off.
Don't know if it's the same as my 74 but there should be a microswitch behind the cylinder for the alarm. I can't remember exactly how it works but I think when the alarm is armed this switch makes contact with the rear of the cylinder. If the cylinder were to be tampered with (i.e. someone trying to remove it to steal the car) the switch would close and active the alarm horn. It's been a a couple of years but I remember having some problems with the switch and just unplugging it. It's on my "to do" list when it comes time to pull out my evap canister to replace the filter.
Here's a pic of the bracket behind the alarm cylinder (my wires are disconnected). The microswitch goes through the hole in the center and makes contact with the cylinder.
