Default interior update...new post...easier upload :)

well today i finished one seat and i couldnt be happier with it...
putting the cushions in is really a snap with the tool i made (see pic below)
i also got a new horn button as my old one was less that perfect...
did you know that it comes in 3 separate pieces? sold seperatly of course at the tune of $60...
by the way...im sure some of you will notice that the crossed flags in the center are not "correct"...oh well...
im afraid the work (and the updates) has to stop for a few days as i am leaving in the morning for Atlanta til monday pm...goin to the NASCAR races.
:D
anyways...here are some pix i took today...

Those seats are to good for your butt. How can you even think of sitting in them? :skep:

SIGNGUY,

1st of all thanx to you all for your wonderful compliments... :yesnod:

what got me started? hhhmmm...?
well...it really stems from a year or more back when my darlin and i were lookin at new cars and SUV's...
it seemed as tho everything that we liked was 30k...40k and up and when i thought about what any of those cars were gonna be worth in 5 yrs i just couldnt do it...
ive always loved corvettes, especialy C-3's and i once had a nice C-3 (68) 25 yrs ago and always wanted another one so the logical thing to do was to buy the best C-3 that i could afford and then make it even better... :yesnod: :)

well...everything under the hood is brand new except for the numbers matching block so the interior just happened to be next...
and of course once i got started there have been tons of "while im at it" stuff...
as some of you know, i have also purchased a TKO kit from Keisler and that will be next...then later this winter the whole rear end will come out and be completely redone...
the goal here is to have a brand new 25 yr old vette...
we all know that that is nearly impossible but i think i can come pretty close... :)
i happen to think that the interior is very important because that is where we spend our time...that is what we see and use as we drive our cars...so...
i want it as perfect as possible...

I agree with you on your thoughts about the interior. I love my '71, but just couldn't see myself taking it to any of the rod runs with the original worn leather seats and carpet that has just seen it's day. For those who think their carpet is great after 25-30 years they really don't find out how old it is until they pull it out and it rips with every pull. *Age Rot*....

Anyway.... I'm not going into the detail you are, but I get my seats back tomorrow morning from the upholsterer and I finish everything up later in the day as I am on vacation just for that purpose. I'll post pics myself late tomorrow of my *before* and *after*. I'm looking foward to it.

yes stinky...i redyed everything that i didnt buy new...
the leather is new tho...
every single piece inside of the cockpit area will be either reconditioned or replaced...
off the top of my head, some of the unusual things that i replaced with new include, 24 light bulbs, all new guage lenses, windshield wiper switch, horn button, both window regulators, compartment door frame complete with buckets, vanity mirror, ALL screws and im sure there are more that i cant remember at 5 am!
it should feel as close as i can get to driving a brand new C-3 when im done i think... :D

This is absolutely incredible work. Youv'e inspired me to start some long delayed projects of my own. After a new house two years ago and my wife starting a new business the toy has been on the back burner for way tooooo long.

Very Very Nice, I just redid my interior for last winter project. I user sem interior die on the plastic parts. an Al kosh dash, installing and aligning the glove box was dificult espicially after I got the dash installed. I recommend doing glove box while dash is out. new, carpet, seat covers, steering wheel. I went from red to black- What an inprovement. Here are a few picture of the process on page 2. http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...=405302&page=1

I did not do the conversion. I saw a 81 convert at a car show several years ago- I thought if I ever see on for sale... I will buy. 2 years ago I bought in arizonia. It needed alot of work. I was told buy previous owner it was a 6k kit. and a shop in Texas installed. The car I saw at the car show just sold at our local corvette store for 21k. It sold in 3 weeks and was in prestine condition. I'm glad I found mine--- for alot less. hehe love corvettes. :chevy
