Default What books do I need?

What are the best books to keep around the garage for repairs?

Which books are the most detailed?

If it matters it concerns an 80.

Books I keep around:

1980 Corvette Shop Manual
1968-1982 Haynes
1968-1982 Clymer (least used)

I will also dig through my collection of 'Vette', 'Corvette Fever' , 'Chevy High Perf' and 'Hot Rod' magazines if I recall a procedure that was described that I want to perform or if there is a parts comparison (ex. SB chevy head performance attributes).

I have also found that Chevy High Performance keeps links to former tech articles on its website.

And... as always, I post and read alot from the forum archives and tech tips.

Another suggestion: Get all of the free corvette parts catalogs that you can lay your hands on. There are often diagrams not available in the shop manual. I must have over 20 different corvette parts catalogs...

First on your list should be the Corvette Assembly Manual for your year. Usually available for about $25. Buy the index to go with it.

Mid-America (forum vendor) has 'em for $20.

I just got my Haynes and Assembly Manuals yesterday. I would say both are "decent", but not enough.

My Corvette Shop Manual from Helm is on order...

Here are my recommendations with two already listed:

1. Corvette Shop Manual (before 78 Chevy Passenger Service Manual)
2. Corvette Assembly Manual
3. NCRS Tech Manual

NCRS also offers an operations manual that provides specific instruction with how systems are suppose to work.
