Default 1982 CE rear hatch adjust?

How does one adjust the rear window hatch. This one has the glass to far to the rear, thusly leaking at the top.

I am not sure how to adjust the glass . My adjustment seems ok ,but whatever you do be carefull with that glass. It is no longer produced and used ones are going upwards of 2 thousand dollars.

I know,
I know.

Your hinges are bent. It was a big problem with the 82's. My drivers side is bent worse than the passenger side, so my rear window has a gap on the top and the latches are not aligned right.

If you get lucky, you can find someone selling a set, but they will probably be bent too. There's a few that have taken them off, and squeezed them in a vice, If you try this, be VERY VERY careful.

I examined the hinges off the vehicle. They do not look bent. They appear to be pot metal. I suspect that the mounts inside the roof are the problem. They are pop-riveted in and the rivets look loose.

Anyone else notice this and have a fix?

I haven't noticed my rivets being loose, but measure your hinges. I think they need to be right at 5 inches from pivot point to pivot point. ( Don't quote me on that measurement )....

If it is just your rivets, then you can drill them out, and install new ones to tighten it up. ( and Lucky you ) ......one of mine is bent. :mad

There is a large panel that is rivited to the underside of the body that goes across the bar. It should be tight. However the the hinges can be adjusted where they bolt to the large panel. I cannot see how the hinges could be bent because they are chrome plated steel. Mine are way too heavy to be pot metal.

There is some adjustment where the hindge bolts to the bar, but they are most likely bent. I have seen lots of them. I believe that they are aluminum instead of potmetal.

Hi John. You might be confusing yours with what the 82 has for hinges.
The 82 had some real crappy hinges, they are black pot metal, and they are real **** to stretching. I have my drivers side spaced about an inch lower than roof and as far forward as it will go, and my glass still has a gap on this one side about 1/8 inch open.

I didn't know that the Cars and Concepts aftermarket hatch kit was different from what GM installed in the Collector cars. Glad you told me.

Thanks,

I just happen to have a picture of an 81 with the Cars & Concepts hatch.
As you can see, the hinges are chrome.
The original CE hinges are black.
