Default Radiator Question

I have sprung a leak in my '68, and need a new radiator. Can someone give me a few recommendations? I would rather not break the bank, but want quality as well. Please feel free to email me at srobertson@crtinc.com

Thanks.

Have you thought about trying to get it fixed and having it cleaned out at the same time?

If this won't work you can get a stock replacement, I've been told, for under $200. If you have increased your HP and have cooling issues, then you might want to consider one of the high performance one's from BeCool or Griffin. Both of these options can be had from the various vendors.

My concern with getting it fixed is that the car was sitting for a long period 30 yrs, and I am now trying to sort out issues of age. I am afraid if I have it fixed, and cleaned out I will simply end up with another leak. Since I have only recently purchased the car, I am not sure of HP yet. I know there is a highrise intake, and the exhaust is definitly been modified, but other than that I do not know. Nice guy I bought the car from but things weren't done to my **** retentive standard so lots of work to be done. Thanks for the advice.

A good shop should be able to address your concerns about future leaks with a pressure test and physical examination.

I'll put a plug in for Tom Dewitts. He makes and sells aluminum rad. about $300-$400. I have purchased from him and have been quite satisfied. He is listed on the vendors page i believe. I would highly recomend the up grade.

I had my original radiator recored for about $200. I believe its as good as new. I did not have any heating problems and I still don't.

:iagree: Yes I had mine recored too. Only about $250 if you R&R radiator yourself. I don’t understand your worry about leaks as a recore uses new brass tubes/core sealed to the stock caps and pressure tested.
Now I would worry more about the core support (mine was rotted/ruined) and shroud seals (hoses too). These seals are something you need to do yourself as most A/C shops will just slap the radiator and shroud together – they don’t care about no stinking seals man. After 35 some years I expect your car is due. :seeya

Thanks all for your great info. I think that I am going to go ahead and get a new one instead of a recore. My reasoning is kind of silly but I can have a new one at my house fast, and be driving again before I have to store her for winter, and a recore might take a week or so... Hey, I just got the car and I need to learn more about what I need to do this winter - a radiator is probably one of the least of my concerns....

The forum was great when I had my 95 c4. I heard that the c3 guys were even better so here I am... Happy motoring!!! :auto:
