Default Hood clearance...why so many problems??

I hear so many problems about hood clearance especially with the performer rpm manifolds. I dont understand all this. My current setup is a performer 2101 with 1'' spacer and an aftermarket non dropbase aircleaner with a 2 5/8" element. Its just barely touching the hood insulation.

Anyone else have this much clearance??

Try fitting that under a smallblock '69 hood. You'll have a nice hole.

I was suprised how much room I had with my '74. I have a Victor Jr with a Mighty Demon, Moroso drop base with 3" element and I have room left over for a 1" spacer which I am going to try....Looking at a Canton 4 into 1 contoured spacer.

If I remember correctly, the RPM is .6" higher than a regular Performer. I am running a RPM with a 3/4 or 7/8" K&N drop base with a 3" element. This just clears the hood insulation with a slight dome on the air cleaner lid. Using your info, depending upon what type of lid you have, we are about the same overall height. Earlier C-3s (dont remember what years) had less clearance.

How much more clearance does a BB/LT1 hood have over the base model hood for 1968 thru 1972 cars? Anyone know? I love the BB/LT1 hood and want to get one someday.

I don't know how much more clearence the BB/LT1 hood has over a small block hood but I have a BB hood with a Torker II intake and a Holley with a recessed 3" air filter and it just barely clears, actually there are marks on the underside of the hood where the engine has torked over and hit a few times.

The main problem is that you can NOT use the stock air cleaner set up. I have a flat top for my air cleaner, with a recessed spot for the wing nut. I have the Performer RPM with a drop base cleaner and a 3" element.
