What intake manifold is this??
Can anyone tell me what kind of manifold this is? I think it's an old Tarantula for a big block rectangular port, but not sure. Model # appears to be TM2R
Crap! No vacuum locations on the manifold! I suspect this is not gonna be compatible with power brakes. Vacuum must be REAL low at idle :(

Just tap into the box under the carb. mounting location and plumb a line for vacuum. You could probably drill a hole and have a bung welded on, or just drill and tap into a section with some "meat" to it and thread a hose fitting on to that.

I don't think that will cut it. If this IS a Tarantula, it is designed for 3000-7000 RPM. No vacuum at idle so power brakes won't work.

It looks like an original edelbrock Torker manifold. It was replaced by the Torker 2 they sell now. It is a low single plane manifold. Just read up on the Torker 2 and you will know what it is good for.

Sigforty: I thought that at first too, but the Torquer didn't mount the carb on an angle, from what I can remember, and this is not exactly "low". More and more I think this is a Tarantula.

Well heck...I just e-mailed Edelbrock direct and asked them. Should know in a day or two. :)

That's what it is, late, late 60's version.

Thanks George! Hey...it's not really compatible with power brakes is it?
I think no vacuum outlets was a warning not to use it on cars that needed vacuum for options.

Re: What intake manifold is this?? (GDaina)
Heard from Edelbrock late yesterday. Nice folks over there:
Yes, it is a Tarantula manifold.
The TM-2R is for rectangular port heads.
The operating range is 3,500 to 7,000 RPM.
It will work with power brakes. Power brakes are more affected by your
choice in cam, make sure you have at least 10 to 12 inches of vacuum at
idle.
Please send any replies to mlin@edelbrock.com <mailto:mlin@edelbrock.com>
Include a copy of this entire e-mail with your reply in order to help our
technical representatives help you more thoroughly.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
The Edelbrock Tech. Dept.
I asked one more question about throttle linkage. With that carb mounted "twisted" like that it's gonna be a "weird" linkage setup.

Back in early 70's, a friend was using this manifold on his 67 427/435 h.p., used the stock linkeage.

Re: What intake manifold is this?? (Dep)
I had the oval port version on a 402 bb in the late 70s. Work well on the street with a mild cam and stock converter in a turbo 400. Used the factory cable linkage with no mods...

DEP...stock linkage works fine. I had a Tarantula on the 454 in my 67 Chevelle. It is oval port though. It is also going to be for sale!

Rick: Too bad it's oval port :( ...I'd be sending you a check if it was rectangular. :)
I don't know if the guy selling the Tarantula will sell it for cheap. He has no bids on it yet. Not exactly a popular manifold nowadays. But I doubt he will let it go for peanuts. I'll probably make him an offer after the bidding closes if my bid doesn't fly.

Yeah To bad! :smash: Good intake though. Well, I have a set of oval port stock iron heads from a 396 to go with it! :D
I also have a polished performer RPM, dual plane for rectangular that needs to go. But that one isn't cheap for sure!!
Good luck on scoring it!

Interesting, it looks like I need to brush up on my manifolds. I do not know why, but I thought the original torker was twisted like that.

Sig: From other pics I've seen the Torker is labelled "Torker" on the manifold. It's inside a little box.
Tarantula just has the TM2R on it. Not sure if Torker has a twisted carb mount or not. A bunch of them for sale on E-bay.

Here's a pic of a Torker for sale. No twisted mount and you can see the box with the name in it:
