#1...carpet is too short to reach the door jam...
#2...wrong type of bead, it dosnt wrap around the jam edge like original, leaving the fiberglass edge exposed...
#3...the bead that IS there only goes 1/2 way up, not to mention that it is FAR too skinny to fit nicely into the aluminum drip piece at the bottom...
IS THIS HOW REPLACEMENT CARPET IS NORMALY CUT TO FIT?
Re: does your replacement carpet fit this shabby? (Redshark6974)
YA...i dont think so either...
so far WILLCOX is RELUCTANTLY trying to solve the problem...
it has been almost two weeks to do so and nothing yet except for blaming it on the fact that i wanted 80/20 instead of the plush that is "supposed to be used on my year vette"...
along with the owner of the company yelling and cursing me on the phone...
(yes...you read that right)
we will see what ends up being done about it, if anything...
i will keep yall posted on their co-operation in resolving this matter as well as their attitude in doing so...
maybe Ernie (Willcox owner) is just having a bad day...i dont know...
even so...i own my own business and have for over 20 years and i would NEVER handle a customer problem in the manner that he is handling this but i guess he is the boss and can handle it in any way that he sees fit...
i DO know tho that even tho i hate to do it sometimes i ALWAYS handle a customer relations problem cheerfully and with the old (customer is always right) attitude and treat them with respect...
even if i call them an a-hole AFTER i hang up...! LOL
like i said tho...maybe he is just having a bad day...and really all that i care about is my vette and its carpet and how it ends up looking and fitting...
maybe its the cost of going with the least expensive dealer...i dont know...
thats really all i want to say about this until i see what happens from here...
he may just suprise me and take care of the problem sooner and better than i expect and if he does, you all will be the first to know...
all i know is that in my opinion this matter could have all ready been taken care of and they would have a happy customer instead of a frustrated one...
my main problem with this is that i am pretty much at a stand still on the project as i dont really want to re-install my speaker box if i am going to end up swapping this carpet out AND also there is the seat issue...
why reinstall the seats if i am going to have to turn around and take them back out again shortly???
Re: does your replacement carpet fit this shabby? (SIGNGUY)
Maybe I shouldn't say anything as I fergit my friend's car...but on my '72 that area is covered by a piece of fiberglass casting, that I padded and wraped in black vinyl...and it covers that entire edge...curves over for the convertible...but I think the same thing in a hardtop/fastback version is what is missing.....I suspect that is what maybe the supplier is saying??? something in translation of language???

Re: does your replacement carpet fit this shabby? (SIGNGUY)
I wonder where they got the carpet from. Did the packaging give any kind of idea where they got it? I have seen other post on here describing what you are saying, but I don't remember where that carpet came from either. Hopefully they will straighten everything out with you. I have never done any business with them but.......

yes...it is ACC carpet...
i hope they straighten it out too as i hate these kind of problems...i find it upsetting and life is too short to have your blood pressure and temper raised over stupid things like this...
i just want what i paid for and i want it without being yeld and cursed at...
i dont personaly know Ernie, he may be a great guy and he may even wish that he would have handled our phone conversation differently and regret the way he handled it...
i know that i would...
Re: does your replacement carpet fit this shabby? (SIGNGUY)
Looks like a carpet from an earlier model. I just finished my 78 last weekend and the molding fit the same as original. same size and full lenght. But mine is cut carpet rather than loop. I believe the loop was prior to 78. Good luck on getting it corrected. Mine was ACC suplied thru Last Detail.
Re: does your replacement carpet fit this shabby? (Plumbroke)
I had a similar experience. ACC supplies most of the Corvette carpet you will find. I ordered a set through Last Detail for a 69 Convertible, light saddle, cut pile and asked for carpet for 2 door storage compartments (it's a neat swap, but you have to cut the top of the panel behind the seat or the doors won't open). I got the set and it had 3 door carpet. I called ACC and they accepted no responsibility for being wrong even though the packing list clearly calls out 2 door carpet. They agreed to sell me just the 2 door carpet set for $20 plus shipping. I agreed just to get it done. Then they sent me dark saddle instead of light and I had to pay shipping both ways again to get the correct stuff. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Bottom line, your middle man is probably getting the runaround from them-give him some slack or deal with ACC yourself and you will see.

You are thinking about the 1/4 panel trim and mounting strips. I am thinking the same thing. There were no verts in '79, or I would say they sent the wrong carpet set. Is the '79 suppose to have the 1/4 trim? I know the coupe and vert aren't the same piece either were they are required.
Re: does your replacement carpet fit this shabby? (SnoDrgn)
Isn't there a trim piece that cover's that up anyway?
no...the original carpet had a "wrap around" beading that was sewn onto the carpet...
anybody got pix of which i speak?
i thru my old, rotten carpet out...

I just got my carpets from AL Knoch but I haven't installed them yet. I did ask them at Fall Carlisle who's carpet do they use. They told me that they make their own.
Re: does your replacement carpet fit this shabby? (SIGNGUY)
My carpet is an ACC and that's exactly the way it looks. My old carpet was mold infested, sun faded, and falling apart so I had no idea what it was supposed to look like. I expected some fitting and cutting here-and-there, but I even had to go so far as to unstitch the plastic on the door sill part, cut the carpet to size, and restitch the plastic back on. I also did some custom fit work on the bead on the door sill corner to since it stuck up and hit the door when it closed.
Not an easy job at all  , but I'm happy with the way it looks. Too late to take anything out and complain now.
Re: does your replacement carpet fit this shabby? (SIGNGUY)
That edge I just tucked under the fiberglass lip since I didn't know what to do with it. Here's what my doorjam looks like (thru the eyes of my cheap digital camera . . . the good one is on loan :banghead: )
Pretty shabby looking now that I know it's wrong.
Re: does your replacement carpet fit this shabby? (SIGNGUY)
I used Romeo engineering, he supposedly made the original carpets for the c-3s. I will tell you it took almost 4 mos. to recieve the carpet, but after a bit of trimming, I am very satisfied, but talk about waiting along time!
