Default 75 AUTO CLICKING SOUND

Ihave a 1975 convert. 400 turbo auto, when under high torque accel. I hear a loud clicking sound from the center tunnel near shift lever. sounds like plastic gears striping. any ideas?

Could be the driveshaft rubbing on the tunnel. I could be way out there but I vote broken/rotted transmission mount. (maybe even motor mount but I'd suspect trans first.)

Good luck! And welcome to the forum!

The shift point governor is located right at that location. My car has a click that is coming from there. You could have a broken spring. There is a cover with 3 or 4 screw in it on the driver side just befor the mount. Trouble is you have to drop the trany to get to it. Some people who want access to make adjustments to it drill a hole through the tunnel which would end up up under the shift console trim. Jack up the back of your car and put it on jack stands, crawl under after putting the transmission in neutral and have someone turn the rear wheels and listen and watch what is going on. Use a stethescope if you have one. Look for things rubbing etc. and check out the mount. Someone put a big ole zip-tie on my trucks drive shaft as a joke, the clicking drove me crazy for about a month until I finally crawled under and found it. You can buy governer rebuild kits or just bring it to a trany shop.
