Radio Recomendations????
I just finished reading and responding to the thread about CUSTOM AUTOSOUND RADIOS......I too have one and not happy with it.
Anybody have some other brand recomendations??
Thanks
Mark
I decided to cut my bezel as it was beat and already cracked at the top. I went with a Blaupunkt Santa Monica CD player that I picked because it had the best radio reception when reviewed. I'm very happy with it, but now I'm looking at a Pioneer like my kid's in the Corvair. That thing rocks!

I too, just went the modern route. I put in a Pioneer 50W x 4 channel Supertuner and a Viper 200W amp behind the seat. 6x9's in the back and replaced the OEM 4" dash units with new ones. ****WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!**  :steering: :flag  :grouphug:
Here is a guy that can "tweak" your original radio (pre-76) and make it just kick azz. He can also add a input for a CD changer, etc. Just depends on how much you want to spend, he's not cheap: TonyMacII@webtv.net IMHO: I think most "modern" radios are not built with the same quality as the older ones, especially the older ones that have some modern technology blended in, and you can retain the original look of the car and dash.
Do yourself a favor and don't send it the above link ....try a aftermarket Kenwood that fits in the factory spot ...no cutting ,rca jacks add a amp any speakers you want a cd changer you can do whatever
I added a pioneer cd player and a pioneer 150 watt bridged to a pioneer 10" sub, yamaha front speakers. The back speakers are powered by a 150 per channel alpine going thru 3 way cross overs. Also the back speakers are out of a suround sound system. One downside is that I had to buy a higher output alternator. If you can't crank it yank it
Any of the units in a given price range will be similiar in quality these days. Go with a brand you trust, I went with Sony, the features you want want and I recommend getting an MP3 player. 100 - 125 songs on a disk at 192 kbs and I can't hear any sound difference in the Vette.
I agree that most any of the modern systems are similar in sound and quality. Maybe I just don't have an ear that's "tuned" well enough to differentiate between them. But with the top down and the noise of the motor, I suspect that most of the details get drowned out anyway. I went with a JVC because I already had a JVC 12-disk changer that I wanted to use. Added in an amp, 6x9's in the rear, and new 4x6's in the kick panels up front. It sounds great, and I can actually hear it at 70 mph with the top down!
My Custom Autosound is gathering dust in the basement....

:iagree:
About the only thing I can add is just stay away from the Kmart Blue Light Special brands. Most reputable car audio companies make decent decks. You will be hard pressed to tell the difference in sound quality. It's more likely the better decks will set themselves apart with more useful features and a better reputation for reliability.
I have a Kenwood X569 in my daily driver and love it. Sirius is awesome. I have been looking for a unit for my Corvette, and I was originally going to go with Alpine. Then I started looking around for a unit that will play DVD's because I have so many MP3's. That way, I could just burn a few DVD's with MP3's and be done. I know Pioneer makes a unit that would work. I talked with a local shop today that gave me some more interesting news. It seems Eclipse will be bringing MP3 to their higher end stuff for next year. Also included will be Sirius radio capabilities, so I might wait and see what they bring out next year. In any case, CUT THE DASH, lol.
