Adjusting door switches
I need to adjust my driver's door switch so the inside lights shut off ALL THE TIME! not just when they want to. My prob is that even if they shut off when I close the door, they may come on later. This trips the alarm and also drains the battery of course. I can see them on, then re close the door and they will go off again like they should . I am sure the problem is the left door switch.
On my '76 it is easy to get to but a bit recessed. I've been told to adjust the sleeve around the switch pin to change the adjustment. But it won't go in or out, only around. When I turn it around clockwise or counter, I can hear the wires attached to the pin itself, spin and hit the kick panel ' So how can I set the adjustment on the switch itself?
Try wrapping teflon tape around the threads of the switch as this may allow it to tighten sooner and bring the switch out further. Or attach a small piece of the felt part of velcro to the front of the door where the switch makes contact when you shut the door.
Did the fire come anywhere near you? We had to evacuate Sunday and are just getting back to our house which is at the bottom of the hill near Crest. The fire came within about 3 blocks of our house.

Re: Adjusting door switches (corvgreg)
Thanks for the suggestion. No, the fire never came more than a few miles away thank God! I am in Mission Valley (Allied Gardens) and the fire in Tirrasanta was not more than a couple miles away.
I did live in Crest at one time. 316 Paloma Lane and yea, that was on a hill. I wonder if that home is still there. Scary stuff!
The switches have a sleeve pressed in to the threaded parp. When the switch is first installed and the door closed on it the force presses it in to the jam. As long as nothing else has changed then it should never change. If you need to reset it you can try to pull it back out. You might have to remove the switch to do it. Remove the kick panel and hold the wires where they attach to the switch. Then turn the post that the door hits and it will unscrew from the plastic piece that holds the wires. After that you can unscrew the switch from the door jam and tap the center tube back out. I just replaced mine for about $8.
If you are talking about the pin switches it's really easier to replace them at $2-4 each then to fiddle around with them. The "tube" is meant self-adjust (to compress into the nut). Once compressed you will never get a tight fit if you move it around, unless you super glue or epoxy the tube to the nut. Why bother......get new ones.
redwingvette and I were typing at the same time....... duplicate effort.
