I'm actually planning on doing this with my '69. Since it was originally a 427/435 and now has a 454 with a single quad, I figured that just putting on the Tripower would make it look great and run fine.
I know that the C3 guys can all tell the difference between the 427 and 454 by the balancer, but in my case, I'm not trying to fool anyone...just trying to get closer to stock.
Although I guess this combo never existed it still works and looks very cool!!!
I would look at the price asked as fair since the cost to acquire a working triple-carb set-up will approach $2000. This assumes good paint & body & otherwise mech sound.
Hey, it's a 1969 big block 'vette, they aren't making 'em like that anymore!
I think the initial planned 454 engine options for 1970 included carry overs of all the good 427 big-block combos from 1969 - but bean counters intervened and all that came out was a single 454 choice, the LS-5. You had to wait until 1971 to get a souped-up (LS-6) 454.
So...putting a 3x2 setup on a 1970 454 would be in keeping with the initial intent of the Corvette team. You could do either oval or rectangular port (and add in aluminum?) heads and follow that intent...
