Default Vent behind passenger kick panel

I removed the kick panel on the passenger side to expose the vent mechanism. Much to my surprise, I found what appeared to be half of the insulation from behind the dash. It appears that the mice have been hard at work.
After cleaning the mess up and dis-assembling the vent mechanism, I found that the rubber (?) seal around the oval shaped closing disc was destroyed. Upon closer inspection, it looks like the oval shaped disc is comprised of two pieces of metal that are riveted together with a rubber gasket imbetween the two pieces. I haven't had any luck finding this part listed in a catalog anywhere. Has anyone replaced this part and where did you find a replacement? :banghead:

This part is sold by Dr. Rebuild. It is a very easy fix. Drill out the rivets, remove the old rubber diaphram, replace, re-rivet.

ZIP also has the seal kit, I think about $10, and you are correct the seal is sandwiched between two plates. The kit comes with the seal and rivets for the rebuild.

Mine don't open! Which control are they supposed to be connected to? Part of the heater controls or is there a seperate operator somewhere?

Thanks!

I fixed mine for free by making a new seal from a piece of rubber roofing material sandwiched between the 2 plates as original. The original was felt, I think the rubber will hold up just fine, works great.

Edit: now that I'm thinking about it, the original was not felt, it was a sponge rubber material of some sort.
